Leven or bust!
Trains have now started running on the reopened Levenmouth branch in Fife, with the first public services advertised to start on Sunday the 2nd of June. And of course, I wanted to go for a bash on the reopened route. This presented a logistical challenge, as both my local routes to Haymarket from Bellshill via Shotts or from Motherwell via Carstairs were closed for engineering works, with replacement bus services substituting for trains. Not wanting to take the bus, I had to consider alternatives. I could go via the Falkirk High route, but that would mean either a trip into Glasgow to catch the train from Queen Street or driving all the way to Croy to use the park-and-ride. A handier alte...

Glasgow Subway trains at Shields Road
Просмотров 1572 месяца назад
My first time travelling on a new Glasgow Subway train. First impressions: As with many new trains, the seats are very hard and uncomfortable. the train is very shooglie. in fact I felt a wee bit queasy during the journey. On the plus side, the train is noticeably quieter than the older trains and you can have a conversation without raising your voice. There is a space for a wheelchair. Finally...

In failing light, 37403, hauling the Branch Line Society's BWC2 railtour, crosses the rarely used City Union bridge in Glasgow on its way from Oban to Wemyss Bay. The bridge is intended to form part of the proposed Glasgow Crossrail sch...

However the downturn in the amount of mail being carried and the move away from using passenger rail stations to one dedicated mail terminal at Willesd...

    Some captions would have helped to identify the layouts. Mine was the second one featured, 'Shieldinch 00', featuring the Caledonian Railway in 1914.

      I do try and add captions where I have that information to hand. I got a program at Model Rail Scotland, so I was able to use that to identify the layouts and add captions to that video. I'm sorry this was not possible for this video.

    Last time I tried to go to Reston I too found the fares a bit ludicrous:- Lenzie to Reston 2 singles £31.10 (no returns issued) compared with Lenzie to Dunbar £13.05 return plus Dunbar to Reston £6.65 return , total £19.70 (all with Senior Railcard). So if I'd innocently bought through tickets I would have paid more than 50% extra than by split-ticketing. Interesting film - I did a "first" tour of the station when I drove there, so wasn't hindered by cancellations etc. Here's my film:- ruclips.net/video/aniI70ESZR8/видео.html

      The ticket prices are shocking. I think Scotrail removing peak time fares will help, but it's stupid that you have to split the tickets to get the best prices.

    • @ChopperNeill98
      @ChopperNeill98 11 дней назад

      @SteamboatWilley Ticket prices outside of Strathclyde are generally more expensive as they get no subsidy but its madness to think that you have to split your tickets indeed to get the cheapest tickets possible, Also. The fares between Edinburgh and East Linton are set by ScotRail but the fares to/from Dunbar are actually set by LNER due to them previously managing the station so intheory your paying another TOCs price even though its not them you're travelling with, Crazy how it all works

    I know this is a little old, but I was wondering if the engine falling "upwards" through the open elevator section physically possible? Is vertical lift taken into engine mounting design?

    • @SteamboatWilley
      @SteamboatWilley 2 месяца назад

      Assuming the engine is mounted on rubber anti-vibration mountings, then I would say it's possible for the weight of the engine to rip it free from the mountings if inverted. The deck above it might not be so easy to break, though.

    Very interesting video. There is a "Walkway of Memories" at Tilbury on one of the passenger bridges that they would have walked along when they disembarked. The panes of glass depict pictures and memories of those passengers that arrived and there is always a big event held on 22nd June of each year to commemorate Windrush Day. There is also a plaque at the nearby Tilbury Town rail station.

    Excellent video. Many years ago, my grandparents used to live in Johnstone and I remember catching this train from Johnstone to Glasgow Central and then staying on it back down to Euston. Of course, back in those days the Ayr line was not electrified so it was hauled by a 47 from Glasgow to Ayr. Happy memories! 👍

    I discovered I'm autistic very recently thanks to the internet. I also have what ten years ago would have been called Asperger. Today many people still use the term but it is actually obsolete since 2013, when it was merged with autism into the Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Asperger was considered a different thing for decades becasue people with Asperger are on average considereably less impaired in social situation than people with classic autism. It is actually the same thing and to further distinguish autistic people the three levels of autism have been introduced. So people with what was Asperger are now level 1 autistics and people with other "more severe" forms of autism are level 2 and 3. This has only to do with how much help and accomondation they may need and has nothing to do with the autistic traits, which are diffrent but consistent for all autistic people. When I was a kid I was also very interested in different vehicles, though mostly sailing ships from the 18th to 19th century and utilitarian cars from the mid 20th century. Most kids loved football and pokemons but I prefered going to a museum.

    Great you managed to go in the end and a very enjoyable watch, I've found it interesting how East Linton and indeed Reston have new stations but the services arnt as regular what most new stations are but then again its just down to georphry and the services. Reston actually gets more trains than East Linton as LNER stop there where as they dont at East Linton and it also has gaps of up to 5 hours at certain points of the day where as Reston doesn't, Hope you manage to try Barrhead out on a 380 as they are a big improvment

    SAC. are more than responsable must have known this situation was coming we now have a prominent town that does not have access to the biggest industrial town in Scotland by direct rail, I constinently travel between glasgow and the south and west of England for more years than. I care to remember and there is no doubt in my mind the sac is not geared for business, overthe course of anumber of years the travelling time by public transport for example from prestwick to ayr is ahockung which is 2.5 m and im including camden town to kings cross which believe it or not is easier , after 6/7 pm at night returning from ayr to said prestwick an utter joke, this council have already made me make drivers redundant because of parking and stopping times for my drivers is there nobody in this council that actually works for the improvemwnt of ayr , a massive SHED were woolworhs once was and. They actually think it's a good job, a great town ruined by council workers and incidentally have a look at their salaries it's like Fawlty towers in reality.

      Don't even get me started on South Ayrshire Council. The way Ayr town centre has been allowed to degrade over the last couple of decades is shocking. And they allowed that Ayr Central development which sucked all the retail trade out of the Kyle Centre and the high street. I could go on for pages.

    I think it is a very well done niche product! For me the big thing about the car is, you can repair and change suspension and drive train parts very easyI If you do heavy offroading in the mountains, things are breaking! You get spare parts for a Land Rover axle very easy and fast where ever you are and repair it by yourself. Not every one needs this, but for 2500 car's a year, maybe there is a market... I'm bringing the car hopefully 2024 to Chile for an Expedition in the Atacama to go high up on the Ojos del Salado. I have ordered one of the early ones, hopefully to get the car in Q2 2024! In August I have driven the black one in light off road conditions near Greystoke Castle in a quarry, was great fun! Had been very impressive to drive the car on a little bit muddy terrain. Even with 33" tires, it worked well. But more important for me, had been the gravel surface on steep quarry slope's! It is very easy to give an impulse to the drive train if you need to, the torque is even on the 220 Kw Motor more than enough! The recuperation works very balancing down a slope, never needed the breaks on this circuit. The electric motor make's it very easy and quiet to go on a off road trail, for work or to have fun!

It's so huge, but it doesn't weigh that much. Less than a Harley. You should build it to do say, 600hp. You would really have something there. Great engine!
